How it began...
First came the toy store
I loved my career as a government criminal lawyer but, like lots of my clients, I couldn't ignore the itch to start my own business. I started an online toy store whilst on maternity leave and grew that business for 3 years before selling it.
Then came the trade mark firm...
Working with business owners to protect their brand
After selling the toy store I completed post graduate qualifications in order to specialise in trade mark law. I was registered as a Trade Marks Attorney in 2016 and have worked with hundreds of clients since then, successfully registering over 500 trade marks in Australia and over 100 trade marks in overseas countries. I also worked on many disputes, including infringement disputes and oppositions.
Why I created Brandopoly
My goal is to bridge the gap between the information IP Australia provide and the information business owners really need to know
Starting a business can be pretty overwhelming. There are lots of steps, lots to think about and lots of expenses. There are fun things like choosing a name and designing a logo, and then there are the unsexy steps, like making sure that all your legal ducks are in a row.
I've created Brandopoly to teach business owners what they need to know about intellectual property and brand protection. This includes:
- understanding the difference between business name registration with ASIC and trade mark registration
- making sure you're legally safe to use your business name
- understanding what trade marks are and how they work so you can make better decisions about what you need to protect;
- how to avoid the common mistakes that people make when lodging their own trade mark applications; and
- how to mantain and enforce your registered trade mark
